City by the Lake

POPULATION ESTIMATE 45,000

The Colony offers a home-town feel with big-city advantages not far away. It has city services, leisure activities, business and play all within a tightly knit community.

The Colony did not exist until 1968 and was developed as a bedroom community and north suburb of Dallas in Denton County.

Located on the eastern shores of Lewisville Lake, The Colony offers access to the lake so you can camp, fish, picnic, swim or use boat ramps. It is bordered on the north and east by Frisco, and on the south by Plano and Carrollton. Dallas Tollroad and 121, gives direct access to downtown Dallas and DFW airport.

At the south entrance to The Colony is a huge  Hawaiian Falls Waterpark attracts visitors from miles away.

EDUCATION

The Colony is located inside both the highly rated Lewisville Independent School District and Little Elm Independent School District which is rated above average.

BUSINESSES

The city is home to Pizza Inn’s corporate headquarters, as well as an Edward Don distribution center and a variety of small and medium-sized businesses. The Grandscape development, anchored by Nebraska Furniture Mart, is driving a new development boom in the city.

Nearby employers include JC Penny’s Corporate, Frito-Lay, HP and numerous others in Legacy Park of Plano.

Austin Ranch in The Colony is a mixed-use Development consisting of  
Retail, Businesses, Apartments and Condominiums.
It’s located on the Southeast side of the City, Across from Sam Rayburn Tollway.

 

Parks, Recreation, Shopping in The Colony

The Colony is committed to providing an outstanding park system to serve the diverse needs of theFishing rod and reel on Lake Lewisville from the shore in The Colony community. Aquatic Park is a city-owned facility with a Heated Indoor Pool, Outdoor Leisure Lagoon, shade covered Wading Pool and an interactive Splash Zone.

The Colony Parks & Recreation Department manages special parks including Wheel Zone Bike & Skate Park, Pawsome Playground Dog Park, and The Colony Five Star Complex 80-acre state-of-the-art sports facility.

SHOPPING

The Colony has ample neighborhood shopping and is located within easy driving distance to world-class shopping, dining and events experience at The Shops at Willow Bend and The Shops at Starwood.

Some of the most desirable shopping in north Texas is The Shops at Legacy, with a prime location at Legacy and the North Dallas Toll Road. Enjoy dining, entertainment, services, and events.
